The Kansas City Freelance Network group has become a
diverse clan of many talents!
But way back when, it all started like so...
In
February, 1990, the nation was facing the onset of a recession and the
Gulf War was right around the corner.
Meanwhile, Diane O'Byrne, founder of KCFN was out there freelancing.
In the early 1990's, freelancing and home-based businesses were much further
and fewer between than now.
She'd been cavorting with an established networking
group, an "advertising club," and met many contacts through that group, as
well as through her up and coming Sales Coaching business. In December 1990,
she decided to host a holiday party at her house and invited some fellow
freelancers.
Party discussions lead to officially establishing
the Kansas City Freelance Network Group. The purpose of the group was
comprised of a gathering every so often to discuss freelancing, exchange
tips and tricks, and help one another with pursuing client leads. The group
was small back then, and members came and went just as with any group.
Today, the clan has many members, but retains its
non-fussy, low-maintenance atmosphere. There's no Board of Directors or
pesky Bylaws, just a clan of diversified members who gather for all the same
reasons on which the group was founded years before. Won't you join us! |
